Itinerary
Beyond two millennia of history have been etched into the construction and assimilation of stories and legends passed down through the centuries. The visit to the secret city of Elbasan follows unconventional itineraries, away from the major tourist flows, to closely explore places and mysteries of a magical Albanian city. Strongly connected to superstition and popular magic, Elbasan offers in its ancient structures entire theories of good luck charms useful for warding off evil spirits. The visit will allow you to see the major monuments such as the Castle of Elbasan, the King Mosque, and the Orthodox Cathedral with new eyes, reading the symbols contained within them, witnesses to apparitions and unsolved mysteries.
Stories of demonic presences, or stories of great spiritual leaders, such as Sufi dervishes wandering through Elbasan’s narrow streets guided by divine inspiration. You will go back in time, between the ancient Illyrian settlements and the Ottoman-era bathhouses, which remained hidden during times of conflict. Stories of the bustling bazaar where cultures met and mingled, and a legendary clock bell whose sound carried so far that even people in nearby villages could hear it. Stories of Skanderbeg’s warriors who passed through these lands in their resistance against Ottoman forces.
